The Idea
Make a game to be completed over the course of one month.
Pick a name that sounds good from the Video Game Name Generator and base a game on that title.
Some examples:
- Fiery Cannibal in the Salad Kingdom
- Emo Bazooka: The Gathering Storm
- Morbid Conga Insanity
- Rockin' Circus Factory
- Sensual Devil Planet
- Drug-Induced Hamster Boxing
- Kool-Aid Man Running Rampage
- Almighty Programming in the Sky
Any technology can be used for development.
Judging Criteria
Entries will be judged based on original content by the UPL coordinators not entered into the contest.
The scoring breakdown is as follows:
- Visuals/10
- Audio/10
- Fun/10
- Polish/10
- Innovation/10
- Adherence to Theme (i.e. the name you picked)/20
- Story/10
Rules
Unoriginal content must be credited and listed. Copyrighted content may not be used.
Must list what tools was the game made with, including any third-party software libraries used, if any.
Must run on UPL machines. We have both Windows (XP) and Linux (Ubuntu) machines. If you use any esoteric libraries, test some sort of Hello World program on one of these computers first. There are a lot of standard development packages missing from many of the UPL machines; if you run across a package you think should be on them, feel free to ask a coordinator.
We recommend stopping by GameSIG to show progress or at least to us know you're still alive.
Can work alone or with a partner. At least one member of each team must be a UPL member. As a reminder, only someone with a UPL account can log in to the UPL computers.
The winning contestant or team will receive a prize. However, the primary goal of the contest is to have fun.
